We got 50% off on our 3 tickets for the tram ride. 3) Google "Glenwood caverns coupon" to see what discounts or coupons are available. You may be stuck up on the mountain waiting for the van in the afternoon. In Colorado, we frequently have thunderstorms in the afternoon and it is obvious that you don't want to be hanging in a tram car on the side of a mountain with lightening all around you. 2) Go as early in the morning as you can. No waiting for trams - either riding up or down. There were only 5 of us on the Cave Tour. You simply cannot expect the staff to handle 2000 people as well as they handle 200 or so. We were told that there was a record crowd of 2000 on a holiday this summer. But then, that brings me to some tips for you. My guys (and others) said things like: "Really fun!" "Next time I would buy the all day pass and ride the Canyon Flyer over and over - as well as try a few other rides." Unlike some reviewers, we found the staff members courteous and extremely pleasant - this included the gal in the gift shop and the gal running the Canyon Flyer, as well as the guide for the Cave Tour. I stood and watched and listened to comments as people got off the ride.
Once on top, the two guys in our group decided to go on the Canyon Flyer - an alpine coaster ride. Lots of interesting formations - one of the best cave tours we've been on. He expertly elaborated on information when questions were asked. He didn't sound like he had just memorized a speech. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and interesting. (We did the regular Cave Tour, not the Wild Tour or the Adventure Tour.) We thought it was longer and more interesting than we had expected for the money. From the tram or once on top of Iron Mountain, you look out over Glenwood Springs and the river valley.
First of all, the tram ride was great - views are awesome. We bought the Park Entrance & Cave Tour tickets - which included the tram ride up Iron Mountain.
As we were 3 adults we were not planning to do the rides.
